Health Systems Strengthening

My work spans the health system building blocks: service delivery, human resources for health, health information systems, health financing, essential medicines, and leadership and governance. I have worked as a strategic advisor and a "doer" pushing these building blocks forward to help governments achieve their goals.

Policy Analysis and Alignment

I led efforts to better align long term investment planning by my client with the policies and goals of the South African Government. I identified the gaps, drafted options, facilitated decision making, and supported change management.

Sexual and Reproductive Health: Identifying What Works and What Women Want

I have 18 years of experience conducting impact-driven research focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights. I started out with clinical trials, cohort studies, qualitative work, and eventually moved to health economic evaluations. My focus is always the end result: who will use this information and what different will it make?

South Africa is embarking on major health financing reforms and health systems strengthening efforts. In a consulting role, I helped my client to understand the changes underway and to identify and take advantage of opportunities to support progressive realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Sustainability of the global HIV response will require strong country leadership and domestic financing. I worked with countries in south and east Africa on solutions for human resources for health, including ways to finance and manage the workforce historically supported by donors.
