More About Me

I am a PhD-level health economist and health systems expert with over 20 years of work experience, including in the NGO sector, academia, and the US government.  My PhD is from the University of Cape Town. I also hold two Masters degrees from Columbia University -- in Public Health and International Affairs. My Bachelors degree is from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Racking up more than the “10,000 hours” touted as the threshold for truly becoming an expert, I have successes in work that cuts across health systems and health areas, including HIV, tuberculosis, and sexual and reproductive health. I know what health service delivery looks like in many settings and the opportunities and barriers to making it higher quality, less costly, and more person-centered. I have spent countless hours working with governments, multilateral institutions, and other stakeholders to support evidence-based decision-making and the hard work of negotiating and building consensus around the steps needed to achieve public health priorities.

I have nearly 50 peer-reviewed journal publications in addition to book chapters and working papers.

I’m also a global citizen, respectful and appreciative of a plurality of perspectives. I listen carefully and learn quickly. I am passionate about making a difference wherever I am—leading, advocating, and supporting to help teams and organizations achieve their global health and development objectives.
